TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology softball team moved into first place in the Heartland
Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with an 8-0 and 16-2
sweep over Hanover College on Saturday in the Engineer home
opener.
Freshman Jordan Goslee (St. Joseph, Mich.)
led Rose-Hulman with two pitching victories and a game two home
run. Junior Katie Frey (Cedar Grove/Franklin County)
led an impressive offensive display with five hits in the two
games.
Rose-Hulman relied on a seven-run fifth inning to
earn an 8-0 victory in game one of the doubleheader.
Goslee tossed her first college shutout with a complete-game
two-hitter that featured three strikeouts.
Offensively, Rose-Hulman broke open a 1-0 game
with its seven-run rally. Frey finished 3-3 with one run
and one RBI, while freshman Kristin Greer (Batavia, Ohio)
contributed a pair of hits in the opener. Junior Ashley
Montgomery (Plainfield) scored two runs to lead the offense
that featured two RBIs each for Goslee and Greer.

The nightcap featured multiple runs in every
inning as Rose-Hulman pounded out 17 hits to earn the 16-2
victory. The Engineers scored six times in the first
inning, four in the second, two in the third and four in the
fourth in the victory.
Goslee improved to 6-0 on the season with a
six-hit shutout for the victory. She walked just one
batter in 11 innings on the day with nine strikeouts.
Offensively, senior Nicole Sanders
(Montezuma/Riverton Parke) joined Goslee with three hits in
the game two explosion. Goslee scored twice and drove home
four runs, while Sanders had two runs scored and two RBIs.
Each player added a double in the contest.
Other key contributors to the game two offense
included freshman Brittany Bernthold (Fisherville,
Ky./Eastern) with two hits and three runs scored; freshman
Darcie Thomas (Brighton, Mich.) with two hits, two runs
scored and one RBI; Frey with two hits, two runs scored and two
RBIs; and Greer with two hits, two RBIs and one run scored.
Rose-Hulman improved to 6-4 on the season and 2-0
in HCAC play with the sweep, with Hanover dropping to 0-6 and
0-2. The Engineers travel to Blackburn for a twinbill on
Sunday at 2 p.m. Central time.
