Gold Earns Verizon Academic All-District Recognition

Rashad Gold earned Verizon Academic All-District honors for his work in the classroom and on the court.

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior guard Rashad Gold (Evansville/Harrison) earned Verizon Academic All-District recognition, claiming second-team honors, in results released Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Gold has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average in the classroom while helping the Rose-Hulman men’s basketball team achieve three consecutive winning seasons and a conference co-championship in 2001.   The chemical engineering major appeared in all 23 games this season, averaging 1.8 points and 1.1 rebounds per game.

Gold earned Arthur Ashe All-Star Scholar recognition in 2002.

Gold was named a first-team men’s basketball Arthur Ashe All-Star Scholar in 2002 by the editors of Black Issues in Higher Education and has earned academic all-conference recognition in each season of his college basketball career.

In addition to his success in the classroom and on the court, Gold has served as finance chair of the National Society of Black Engineers, is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and is an active participant in the Intervarsity Christian Fellowship organization.  He has earned Rose-Hulman academic recognition as a Paul Bogart scholar and a Noel Moore Achievement Award recipient.

Gold is one of just 10 student-athletes from over 30 colleges in Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin to earn Verizon Academic All-District recognition.
