  Rose-Hulman News Two Hot Hands Lead Rose-Hulman Past Mount St. Joseph

TERRE HAUTE, IND. - Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on two 20-point scorers and four players in double figures to top Mount St. Joseph 77-67 in men's basketball action on Wednesday.
 
Freshman Daniel Lowers (Gosport/ Edgewood) led the Engineer offense with 21 points and nine rebounds.  Junior Lorenzo Rice (Grandview, Mo.) added a career-high 20 points on 7-12 from the field.

The performance marled the first time that two Engineers have crossed the 20-point mark in the same game since Philip Griffith and Munchie Muskeyvalley accomplished the feat against Earlham in 2003.

 
Other Engineers reaching double figures in scoring included senior Ron George (Louisville, Ky./Manual) with 11 points and freshman Michael Kelly (Fort Myers, Fla.) with 10 points.
 
Mitchell Goldschmidt led the Mount St. Joseph offense with 22 points.  Travis Huffman added 17 points and Michael Romes scored 13 points and 12 rebounds.
 
The Engineers shot 52% from the field and hit 21-29 free throw attempts in the victory.
 
Rose-Hulman jumped out to a 33-28 halftime advantage due to 56% shooting.  The tight first half featured seven ties and five lead changes.
 
In the second half, the two teams traded baskets for the first eight minutes wuth Rose-Hulman holding a five-point lead at the 11:52 mark.  Field goals by senior Ross Uthoff (Crete, Ill./Illinois Lutheran) and Rice pushed the lead to nine points.
 
Mount St. Joseph closed within six on two occasions, before Rose-Hulman scored nine straight points over a 90-second span late in the game to secure the win.
 
Rose-Hulman improved to 10-11 on the season and 6-6 in HCAC play, while Mount St. Joseph dropped to 9-12 and 3-9 in league games.  The Engineers host Defiance College in the 100th season of basketball celebration game on Saturday.
