TERRE HAUTE, IND. - Anderson University relied on
a 25-point effort from junior Mike Russell to earn a 60-46
victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Heartland
Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball action on
Wednesday night.Russell finished 9-18
from the field and 4-8 from three-point range to lead all
scorers in the contest.
Senior Jared Moore (Indianapolis/ Perry
Meridian) paced Rose-Hulman with 10 points and added six
rebounds.
Freshman Michael Kelly (Fort Myers, Fla.)
and senior Ron George (Louisville, Ky./Manual) each
scored nine points for the Engineers, while freshman Daniel
Lowers (Gosport/Edgewood) contributed five points and a
game-high seven rebounds.
Anderson shot 45% from the field in the
contest and held the Engineers to 38% in the opening half to
earn a 30-22 halftime advantage.
Rose-Hulman made a charge midway through the
second half, turning a 44-30 deficit into a 45-37 margin on a
three-pointer by senior Phil Sundling (Huntington/North)
and baskets from Lorenzo Rice (Grandview, Mo.) and
Jeff McCartney (Wooster, Ohio/Triway).
Anderson responded with a 17-5 run over the
next six minutes to claim a 60-42 advantage and improve to 8-10
on the season. The Ravens also improved to 4-5 in
conference play.
Rose-Hulman dropped to 7-10 overall and 3-5 in
league contests. The Engineers travel to Bluffton
University on Saturday afternoon for another HCAC matchup.
