  Rose-Hulman News Three in Double Figures Lead Rose-Hulman Past Manchester

Michael Kelly recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Engineers.
N. MANCHESTER, IND. - Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology placed three players in double figures with a balanced scoring attack to defeat Manchester College 64-57 in men's basketball action on Saturday.

Freshman Michael Kelly (Fort Myers, Fla.) led the Engineers with 13 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots.  Kelly reached double figures for the fourth straight game and recorded his first career double-double in the effort.

Senior Ron George (Louisville, Ky./ Manual) and freshman Daniel Lowers (Ellettsville/Edgewood) added 11 points each for Rose-Hulman.  George finished 3-4 from the field and 5-6 from the foul line, while Lowers had five rebounds and shot 4-9 overall.

Jamaal Wade led all scorers with 23 points for Manchester.  Nathan Ferch also reached double digits for the Spartans with 10 points.

Other key contributors for Rose-Hulman included sophomore Jeff McCartney (Wooster, Ohio/ Triway) with eight points; senior Jared Moore (Indianapolis/Perry Meridian) added seven points; and senior Phil Sundling (Huntington/North) with six points and six assists.

The Engineers shot 49% from the field in the contest and buried 5-10 three-point attempts in the victory.  Rose-Hulman outrebounded Manchester 31-23 in the contest and led by as many as 11 points late in the second half.

Rose-Hulman turned a two-point lead late in the first half into a six-point advantage at 29-23 at halftime on back-to-back scores from Lowers.  Manchester came from behind to take three second half leads, before Rose-Hulman relied on a 12-1 second half run to take a 56-45 lead with 2:45 left.

McCartney scored on a layup and a three-pointer, while Kelly added five points to spark the game breaking rally.  Manchester trimmed the deficit to seven in the final minute but could come no closer down the stretch.

Rose-Hulman improved to 5-9 overall and 2-4 in conference play, while Manchester dropped to 3-11 overall and 1-4 in the league.  The Engineers host Robert Morris-Springfield on Tuesday.
