PURCHASE, N.Y. - Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology senior Ron George (Louisville, Ky./Manual)
scored a career-high 22 points, but the Engineers could not
overcome host Manhattanville College in a 74-60 loss in the
championship game of the 31st Castle Classic on Saturday night.
Rose-Hulman held a 27-25 halftime advantage on a
strong Manhattanville squad that finished 23-6 last season.
The Valiants shot 63% from the field in the second half, after
the Engineers held the hosts to just 35% in the opening 20
minutes.
George joined senior Jared Moore
(Indianapolis/Perry Meridian) on the Castle Classic
all-tournament team for their efforts over both days of play.
George finished 9-15 from the field and 4-4
from the line with three steals and a pair of assists, while
Moore had 10 points, four rebounds and three assists in the
title matchup.
Brian Fink led four Manhattanville players in
double figures with 25 points to earn Most Valuable Player
honors for the weekend. Brendan Flynn added 15 points,
Donte Chisolm 14 and Cody Moffett 10 for the Valiants.
Other key contributors for Rose-Hulman
included junior Phil Sundling (Huntington/North) with
seven points, six rebounds and four assists; and sophomore
Jeff McCartney (Wooster, Ohio/ Triway) with six points on a
pair of treys.
Rose-Hulman stands 1-1 on the season and
travels to St. Louis for a Tuesday night matchup against
Fontbonne University. Manhattanville improved to 2-0 on
the campaign with the victory.
