Box Score

Brian Bibb recorded a 19-point, 11-rebound effort to lead the win.

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology avenged an earlier season loss by defeating Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference in-state rival Hanover College 61-56 at Hulbert Arena on Saturday.

Senior Brian Bibb (Hoopeston, Ill.) led the Engineers with a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds.  Senior Jason Bednarko (Athens, Ill.) added 13 points on a trio of three-pointers and junior Ron George (Louisville, Ky.) had 11 points and six boards for Rose-Hulman.

Other key contributors for the Engineers included junior Phil Sundling (Huntington/North) with 11 rebounds, six points and three assists; and junior David Yaraschefski (Mooresville) with six points and three rebounds.

Rose-Hulman buried 16 of 18 free throws in the game, including 13-15 in the second half, to secure their seventh victory of the season.  The Engineer defense also played a key role, holding Hanover to 34% from the field and 32% in the second half.

A determined Phil Sundling grabbed 11 rebounds at point guard.
Brock Dawson came off the bench to lead Hanover with 12 points, with Robby Brown scoring 11 and Jake Inman 10 for a balanced Panther attack.

Rose-Hulman jumped out to a 34-28 lead at halftime due to 11 points from Bednarko and a 21-14 rebounding advantage.  In the second half, Hanover responded to tie the score at 40 and 42, before gaining a four-point lead at 48-44 with 8:41 remaining.

The Engineers would not be denied on the afternoon, however.  Bibb scored two layups and Yaraschefski hit a pair of free throws to make the score 50-48 Rose-Hulman with 6:05 left.  The game was tied again at 50 and 52, but the Engineers held Hanover without a field goal for the last 2:41 of the game to earn the victory.

Rose-Hulman improved to 7-11 overall and 3-6 in HCAC play, while Hanover dropped to 10-8 and 5-4 in conference games.  The Engineers host another in-state rival in Anderson University on Wednesday at Hulbert Arena.
