Seniors Lead Rose-Hulman Over Manchester 50-47

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- A pair of seniors produced nearly half of Rose-Hulman's points as the Engineers topped Manchester College 50-47 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball action on Saturday.

 

Jason Bednarko (Athens, Ill.) buried four three-pointers and scored a game-high 13 points off the bench for the Engineers.  Brian Bibb (Hoopeston, Ill.)

pitched in with his seventh double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

 

Rose-Hulman trailed the Spartans 27-24 at halftime after the Engineers led for much of the first half.  The two teams battled closely in the second half, with tied scores at 32, 34, 36 and 40.

Manchester claimed a four-point lead at 47-43 on with 2:29 remaining on a pair of free throws by Cornelius Bambo.  A three-point play by Bibb trimmed the margin to 47-46 with 1:53 left.

After a missed jumper by James Reed of Manchester, Bednarko buried a 28-foot three-pointer with 1:00 left to give the Engineers a 49-47 lead.

Rose-Hulman held Manchester without a basket on its next possessions, then relied on a Bednarko for a 50-47 advantage.  A late three-point attempt by Manchester to tie was launched after the buzzer.

Jamaal Wade led the Manchester attack with 12 points, although Rose-Hulman limited Manchester to 32% field goal shooting in the second half.

With the victory, Rose-Hulman improved to 6-10 overall and 2-6 in HCAC play.  Manchester dropped to 10-6 on the season and 2-5 in conference contests.  The Engineer travel to archrival DePauw University on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
