  Rose-Hulman News Three Rose-Hulman Student-Athletes Named HCAC Player of the Week
 

Sam Danesis -- HCAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology captured three Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards in results released today by the league office.

Senior Sam Danesis (Akron, Ohio/Revere) claimed the women's tennis Player of the Week award, freshman Kyle Kovach (Munster/ Andrean) was named football Offensive Player of the Week, and freshman Anna Lewer (Indianapolis/ Lutheran) was crowned volleyball Player of the Week.

Danesis won her fourth consecutive No. 1 singles championship at the HCAC Individual Tennis Tournament on Saturday and Sunday.

Kyle Kovach -- HCAC Football Offensive Player of the Week

Danesis enters this weekend's HCAC team championship with a perfect record in league play during her college career.

Danesis improved her season record to 15-2 in singles play and a career mark of 71-13 at Rose-Hulman with the results.  Her doubles marks include 13-3 with freshman Melissa Montgomery this season and a school record 64-15 career doubles tally.

Kovach led the offense with 256 yards of total offense and three touchdowns.  He rushed for 153 yards and two scores, returned a kickoff 76 yards for a touchdown among two kick returns for 91 yards, and added a 12-yard pass reception on the afternoon.

Kovach moved into second place in the HCAC in rushing yards with 558 and averages 6.0 yards per carry with seven touchdowns so far this season.

Anna Lewer -- HCAC Volleyball Player of the Week

Lewer has helped vault the volleyball team to a 16-5 mark, a perfect 3-0 HCAC tally and a school record eight-match winning streak entering tonight's contest against DePauw University.

Lewer smashed 21 kills with a .315 attack percentage in victories over Manchester and Cincinnati Christian.  Lewer added 23 digs (3.29/set), eight blocks and one service aces for the Engineers.

The women's tennis team returns to action at the HCAC Team Tournament on Friday, football hosts Defiance on Saturday, and volleyball hosts DePauw tonight at 7 p.m.
