Concerts Committee
Chair: Kristen Parrish (x6731)
The Concerts committee brings in the best music acts on the college circuit. Check out the links below to listen to some of the acts we've had in the past, and to get pumped up for the acts coming to school this year!
Now is the best time to get involved with the Concerts committee. We research artists (who isn't surfing myspace anyway?), get in touch with them, and take care of hospitality (ie, we get to hang out with the visiting artists when they're on campus... can you say, "I'm with the band"?).
Coming up this year...
Inpulse (myspace)
Friday, August 31st, 8:30 PM in Hatfield Hall
This kickin' acapella group from St. Olaf College in Minnesota has
great original material and also covers classic songs with their own
unique harmonies and sounds. Michael Jackson, anyone?

Open Mic Nite
Friday, September 14th, 8 PM in the Kahn Room
This is your show - poetry, hard rock, John Mayer covers? Whatever
you rock, come out and make it your own (and tell all your friends).
Watch for all-campus notices about signups, or just email Kristen. And
check out the youtube vids from our last Open Mic.

The Smyrk (myspace)
Tuesday, October 16th, 8 PM in the Kahn Room
These hard rockin' guys from Connecticut know are unlike anything
campus has seen in a long time. Absolutepunk.net says that "you've
heard nothing like this", but the New Haven Advocate attempts to
explain: "They put soul into post-hardcore, playing jazz chords with
the energy of a punk band". Or you could just check out the downloads.

Matt Hoffer (myspace)
Tuesday, December 11th, 8 PM in the Kahn Room
Alternative-acoustic-indie Chicago native Matt Hoffer lists everyone
from Imogen Heap to Vertical Horizon to Frank Zappa to Metallica in his
"sounds like" blurb on myspace. Check out the free downloads on his
website in the "music" section.

John Rush (myspace)
Monday, March 24th, 4 PM on the Union Patio
This will be John Rush's third visit to campus... so you know he's
awesome. He's known as the "Human iPod" because he can cover hundreds
of songs and will play requests. He also has solid original stuff (with
guitar tabs online!). Did we mention this is Dyngus Day, the annually
celebrated Polish holiday that basically means we give out a ton of
free Polish sausage? Yum.

Meg Allison (myspace)
Monday, April 25th, 8 PM in the Kahn Room
Meg was on campus last winter to play a show with Jason Levasseur,
but due to a badly timed bout with laryngitis was unable to play at
that show. However, she was still able to hang out with us at Jason's
show and sell her amazing CD, "Missing Piece". You may have seen her on
Nashville Star, but if you're not a country fan keep an open
mind: Meg's sound is more acoustic pop/indie (think Sarah McLachlan
meets Jason Mraz) than country. Don't miss this awesome
singer/songwriter at our last show this school year.
