Two Rose-Hulman Teams Make the Nationals
November 8, 2011
The fall sports season has extended another week -- or hopefully
more -- for Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology's volleyball and
men's soccer teams after earning berths in the NCAA Division III
tournaments. It is the first NCAA postseason appearance for
the volleyball team, while the soccer team is playing in the
national tournament for the second time in four years.
This marks the first time that two teams have qualified for NCAA
tournaments in the same portion of the athletic season.
The volleyball team faces nationally ranked Wittenberg
University (Ohio) on Thursday at 3 p.m. in a regional tournament at
Calvin College (Mich.).
Meanwhile, the men's soccer team will face off against No.
9-ranked Ohio Northern University in a match being played at Case
Western Reserve University in Cleveland on Saturday, starting at 5
p.m.
Both teams are on a roll heading into their tournaments.
The volleyball team brings a six-match winning streak into
Thursday's action, and has established single-season school records
for wins (24) and winning percentage in a year that featured the
first conference regular-season title in program history.
Coach Brenda Goble's squad won the Heartland Collegiate Athletic
Conference tournament in three sets over Bluffton University on
Sunday.
The men's soccer team enters the national tournament on a
school-record 11-match winning streak. The team, coached by
Sean Helliwell, stands 16-5 this fall and captured the HCAC
tournament championship with a 5-1 victory over Earlham College
last Saturday.
