Decade As Champions: Students from Terre Haute South High School captured top honors in this year's Rose-Hulman High School Mathematics Competition for the 10th straight year. The school had a record-setting 1,311 points score to win this year. |
The challengers may get more determined and talented, but Terre Haute South High School students keep meeting the challenge in the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology High School Mathematics Competition.
Posting a record-setting score, the hometown school earned its 10th straight contest championship on Saturday, Nov. 8, besting 23 other schools from Indiana, Illinois and Iowa. More than 400 scholars tested their problem solving skills in one of the Midwest’s largest high school competitions. Besides Terre Haute, the test is also administered this fall in St. Louis, Cincinnati and central Kentucky.
Students had one hour to complete 20 questions in a wide range of
mathematics categories, with 100 possible points. Individual and team honors were presented to freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors.
An overall team title was awarded to the school accumulating the highest score amongst all four class divisions.
Winning two of the four divisions, Terre Haute South came out on top with a record 1,311 points, followed closed by Iowa City West (Iowa), with 1,186 points, and Park Tudor of Indianapolis, with 1,181 points.
