Kevin Sutterer |
Veteran professors Kevin Sutterer and Terrence Casey have been selected to lead academic departments at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, starting on July 1, following national searches.
The appointments were announced by Art Western, vice president of academic affairs and dean of faculty.
Sutterer, associate professor, will serve as head of the Department of Civil Engineering, replacing Robert Houghtalen, who is leaving Rose-Hulman at the end of the academic year for
humanitarian work in Sudan.
A member of the Rose-Hulman faculty since 1998, Sutterer has been faculty adviser for Rose-Hulman’s award-winning Cecil T. Lobo student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers and served
as interim head of the Operation Catapult educational program last summer.
Sutterer specializes in waste utilization in structural fills, geotechnical earthquake engineering, geosynthetics, ground modification and geotechnical construction. He has served on several
ASCE and American Society of Engineering Education committees, been named Young Engineer of the Year by the National Society of Professional Engineers and earned an Award for Professional Engineering
Achievement in Education from the Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers. He has academic degrees from University of Missouri-Rolla, Purdue University and Georgia Institute of Technology.

Terrence Casey |
Casey, associate professor of political science, will be the head of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, replacing Caroline Carvill, who will return to full time teaching
responsibilities in the department.
A member of the Rose-Hulman faculty since 2000, Casey specializes in comparative and international political economy, globalization, British politics, comparative politics and international
relations. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Towson University, and master’s and doctoral degrees in political science from George Washington University.
Casey compiled the books “The Blair Legacy: Politics, Policy, Governance, and Foreign Affairs” and “The Social Context of Economic Change in Britain,” both published by Palgrave Macmillan
Publishers.
