Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology alumnus William S. Meyers, a lawyer at Baker & Daniels in Indianapolis, is helping evaluate and provide guidance on the Department of Physics and Optical
Engineering's strategic goals through the college's Physics and Optical Engineering Advisory Board. The group meets periodically to help the school better serve Rose-Hulman students as they enter the
work force or continue their studies in graduate school.
Meyers graduated cum laude from Rose-Hulman in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in applied optics. He earned a master's degree in applied optics from Rose-Hulman in 1994 before graduating cum laude
from the Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis in 2002.
During his undergraduate and graduate years at Rose-Hulman, Meyers was part of a NASA Lewis Research Center team that helped design and develop the optical system for an experimental package that
flew aboard space shuttle Columbia as part of a U.S. Microgravity Laboratory mission. He also conducted research in the field of medical imaging as a graduate student in the medical biophysics program
at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis from 1994-95.
At Baker & Daniels, Meyers concentrates his legal practice on protecting intellectual property assets, primarily in the mechanical, electrical, optical and software related arts. He focuses on the
preparation and prosecution of patent applications and client consultation. Additionally, Meyers has experience in the licensing of intellectual property assets and assisting clients in product
design.
Before entering the patent profession, Meyers gained engineering experience with a mechanical engineering design firm which he co-founded and co-owned for almost five years.
