More Than 100 Persons Recognized at Rose-Hulman's Honors and Awards Banquet

Top Of The Class Honor: Peter Outcalt, a senior computer science major, received the Carl Wischmeyer Award for having the highest grade point average following the junior year in 2006-07.  Presenting the award was Art Western, vice president of academic affairs and dean of faculty.

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology students joined alumni, high-school educators and a special Wabash Valley resident in being honored during the college's annual Honors and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, April 25. More than 110 persons were recognized at the special event.

Outstanding students from each academic department received awards for academic achievement, service or leadership potential. (See List Below) Student having the highest grade point average at the end of the freshman, sophomore and junior years was presented special academic awards.

Peter Outcalt, a senior computer science major from Cincinnati, Ohio, received the Carl Wischmeyer Award for having the highest grade point average following the junior year (2006-07).  Named Carl Wischmeyer Scholars for high academic achievement following the junior year were Alexander Clerc, an electrical engineering major from Columbus, Ind.; Samantha Dick, a biomedical engineering major from Fort Wayne, Ind.; Amanda Grantz, a chemical engineering major from Rapid City, S.D.; and  Aaron Meles, a mechanical engineering major from Otsego, Mich.

Top Sophomore Academic Honor: Robert Lemke-Oliver, a junior mathematics major, received the Paul N. Bogart Prize for having achieved the highest grade point average following the sophomore year in 2006-07.  Presenting the award was Art Western, vice president of academic affairs and dean of faculty.

Robert Lemke-Oliver, a junior mathematics major from Madison, Wis., received the Paul N. Bogart Prize for having the highest grade point average following the sophomore year (2006-07). Paul Bogart Scholar Awards were bestowed upon juniors Evan Breedlove, a  mechanical engineering major from St. Charles, Ill.; Stephen Nease, an electrical engineering major from Germantown, Tenn.; and Jason Sauppe, a computer science major from Avon Lake, Ohio.

Micah Weaver, a sophomore computer science major from Lebanon, Ind., earned the Heminway Bronze Medal for having the highest grade point average following the freshman year (2006-07).  Named Heminway Scholars were sophomores Joseph Ausserer, a mechanical engineering major from Dayton, Ohio; Michael Boland, a software engineering major from Terre Haute; Matthew Cox, a mechanical engineering major from Russiaville, Ind.; Elizabeth Deike, a chemical engineering major from Wilmington, Dela.; Evan Jones, an applied biology major from Anderson, Ind.; Brian Kiraly, an engineering physics major from Granger, Ind.; Anthony Klee, an optical engineering major from Billings, Mont.; Casey Kretzer, a physics major from Dayton, Ohio; Kai Li, an electrical engineering major; Clayton MacCrindle, a mechanical engineering major from the Village of Lakewood, Ill.; and Steven Stark, a software engineering major from Saint John, Ind.

High-School Teachers and Counselor Honored

Three high school teachers received the Samuel F. Hulbert Outstanding Teacher Award.  Each recipient was nominated by a current Rose-Hulman student.  Recipients were Lee Strassell, a mathematics teacher at Madison Consolidated High School in Madison, Ind.; John Crane, a mathematics teacher at Mehlville High School in St. Louis; and Steven Hoernemann, the band and orchestra director at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in Indianapolis.

Michael Klinker, counselor at Danville Community High School (Ind.), received the Charles G. Howard Outstanding Counselor Award for outstanding contributions to his students.

Peter Garvey, social studies teacher in Centreville, Va., was awarded the Outstanding Mentor Award for supporting students in his leadership class.  This encouragement has motivated many of Garvey's students to reach challenging personal goals.
