Prospective Freshmen Applying to Rose-Hulman in Record Numbers
Rose-Hulman
In spite of these challenging economic times, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is still a popular choice for high-achieving high school seniors, with the top-ranked undergraduate engineering college setting a record with over 3,600 applications of admissions being received for the 2010-11 freshman class.

Interest High In Rose-Hulman: Prospective freshman students from throughout the world have applied for admission to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in record numbers for the second straight year. They hope to take their place in the 2010-11 freshman class.
This marks the second straight year that Rose-Hulman has achieved an application record. Overall, applications have increased 20 percent over the past two years, according to James Goecker, vice president of enrollment management.

Applications are still being received for the 2010-11 freshman class at http://www.rose-hulman.edu/admissions. The college is hosting campus visitation days on February 15, March 12, March 19 and March 26 for prospective students and parents. Financial deposits to hold a student for the 2010-11 freshman class must be received by May 1.

“Families are refocusing on the meaning of higher education and are looking for real indicators of quality and success,” Goecker said. “Whether it is Rose-Hulman’s No. 1 ranking in U.S. News & World Report’s college guide, its outstanding ranking in the National Survey of Student Engagement or its career placement record, families see us as an outstanding institution. Innovation and leadership skills will be critical in the future and students and families recognize that opportunities like Rose-Hulman Ventures set Rose-Hulman apart from other engineering programs.”

Rose-Hulman is also gaining an international reputation in undergraduate engineering, science and math education. The 2009-10 freshman class had a record number of international students and the admissions office has experienced a 44 percent increase in international student applications this year. Students from 44 countries have applied so far for Rose-Hulman’s 2010-11 freshman class.

“There is no more complete environment in undergraduate engineering education today than Rose-Hulman,” Goecker added. “From the quality of its facilities, faculty and students, the caring environment where each student is encouraged to succeed or national rankings by peer institutions, Rose-Hulman’s reputation is well earned.”

Goecker commended Rose-Hulman’s admissions staff with coping with the increase in freshman applications. He noted that admission decisions are being made and students notified in a timely manner.

“This record number of applications would not have been possible without the dedication and professionalism of the entire Office of Admissions staff,” Goecker said.
