Former Librarian John Robson Gets Indiana Library Federation's Lifetime
 Achievement Award
Rose-Hulman

John Robson
John M. Robson has received the Indiana Library Federation’s 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition to his 25 years as Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology librarian and curator. The honor was presented on Oct. 19 by the ILF’s Awards and Honors Committee at the organization’s annual conference in Fort Wayne.

Robson served at Rose-Hulman from 1984 to 2009, helping transform the college’s Logan Library from a collection of books and a card catalogue to an inviting learning resource with bound and electronic technical databases, books and journals.

An ILF news release noted Robson’s love for history and librarianship has inspired other librarians and archivists, and he has assisted the federation as treasurer, vice president and president.

Robson was instrumental in guiding the ILF through organizational developments and helped to lead the federation in times of transition. He served in leadership roles with the Indiana Academic Libraries Association, under the umbrella of ILF, the ILF scholarship committee and the ILF endowment board.

He also served on the Indiana Cooperative Library Service Authority and the Stone Hills Area Library Services Authority; was a founding member of the Wabash Valley Visions and Voices Digital Memory Project for west central Indiana; and a board member of the Vigo County Historical Society.

The Friends of Indiana Libraries presented Robson the David Hurst Memorial Advocacy Award last year to highlight his commitment to library excellence.

At Rose-Hulman, Robson was active on numerous campus and professional committees, was a volunteer for Indiana Special Olympics and earned the President’s Outstanding Service Award. He and his wife, Elizabeth, are residents of Paris, Ill., and actively involved in their church.

Robson received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Kent State University, and went on to the University Of Wisconsin to work on a doctoral degree.

The Indiana Library Federation is a membership-driven organization which promotes all libraries in Indiana and fosters the professional growth of its members which include librarians, library staff, library administrators and trustees.
