Homework Hotline Sets Record with Tutors Answering 507 Calls on Oct.

The phone are ringing at a record pace for Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology's Homework Hotline, a toll-free telephone tutoring service which
helps Indiana middle school and high school students understand mathematics
and science. Rose-Hulman student tutors set a record on Tuesday, Oct. 6,
when 507 calls were answered -- beating the previous record of 455 calls on
Oct. 10, 2006.
The Homework Hotline has hired more student tutors (now 42 each night) to
meet the increased demand for the service, which answered 5,637 during the
first month of the 2009-10 school year.
The largest call volume came from Marion County, with 806 calls during
September. Other top Indiana counties using the hotline included Hamilton,
277 calls; Allen, 230; Hendricks, 180; Lake, 179; St. Joseph, 169; Vigo,
136; Elkhart, 117; Kosciusko, 113; Monroe, 111; and Delaware, 110.
Rose-Hulman's Homework Hotline operates from 7-10 p.m. on Sundays through
Thursdays by calling 1-877-ASK-ROSE (1-877-275-7673) or sending questions to
www.AskRose.org.
