 Alcoa Adds to Support for Rose-Hulman’s Diversity Initiatives

Alcoa has made additional financial resources available to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology’s Diversity Initiatives Fund (DIF) to assist in the recruitment of minority students and support their professional growth while students.

The company’s most recent donation will support the student professional chapters of the National Society of Black Engineers, the Society of Women Engineers, the Society of Hispanic Engineers and the Asian Society of Engineers & Scientists.
 
Presenting the donation were Joseph Haniford, Alcoa Power and Propulsion’s vice president of manufacturing-North America; Joao Jose San-Martin, vice president of human resources for Alcoa Power and Propulsion; Alexander Alford, plant manager at Morristown, Tenn., operations; and Ashley Hart, product engineer at LaPorte, Ind., operations.
 
“Alcoa looks forward to our continuing relationship and sustaining Rose-Hulman’s vision to grow and develop our future leaders,” Haniford stated.
 
Through September 2009, DIF has received $122,312 in 13 gifts from 11 donors, including multiple donations by Alcoa.
 
DIF has been used to support minority student recruitment efforts through hosting campus programs for prospective minority students, minority college fairs and scholarships to Rose-Hulman’s Operation Catapult summer program for high school students interested in engineering and science careers. Rose-Hulman has also been able to become active in the Minority Engineering Program of Indianapolis pre-college program and Indiana Black Expo event.
