Four Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology economics professors will examine
the state of the national and local economy, while also looking ahead to what
2009 might bring during the college's annual Service Club Luncheon on Tuesday,
Nov. 25, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Vonderschmitt Dining Room of the Hulman
Union. Providing insight on a variety of economics topics during the "Views of
the Current Economy" session will be:

w Thomas Mason, professor economics and engineering management, who was the
founding head of the Department of Engineering Management Department and
founding vice president for entrepreneurship and business planning of Rose-Hulman
Ventures. He has been advisor or director for several high tech firms and has
been involved in national efforts to integrate entrepreneurship and engineering
education.
w Dale Bremmer, professor of economics, who specializes in applied econometrics,
monetary theory and industrial organization. He has examined the relationship
between consumer confidence and stock indices, and the Federal Reserve behavior
in setting interest rates. He has also worked with the Indiana Office of Utility
Counselor. He has written papers on the following "The Asymmetric Impact of Oil
Prices on Gasoline Prices" and "Consumer Confidence and Stock Prices".
w Kevin Christ, associate professor of economics, who studies applied
microeconomics, managerial economics, international trade and balance of
payments, and history of economic thought. He has conducted research in the role
of public capital in private production, and agency theory and optimal incentive
structures. Christ wrote an op-ed, titled "A Sinking Feeling”, that examined the
role deflation, a general decline in prices, could play in the American economy.
w Jong Hun Kim, assistant professor of economics, who has conducted research on
transmission of financial crises, investment and financing choices of firms, and
stock market development and economic growth. He specializes in applied
econometrics, money and finance, and East Asian economies, and has worked for
the Korea Economic Forecast Association and Samsung Economic Research Institute.
The Service Club Luncheon allows Rose-Hulman to thank members of Wabash Valley
service clubs for their distinguished service to the community. More than 200
service club members have made reservations to attend the event.
