Fall 2006-07

  • Thursday, November 30: Rose-Hulman Mathematics awarded a three-year grant renewal as an NSF-REU site. Kurt Bryan and David Fin Co-PI's Josh Holden Senior Investigator. This makes 21 years of continuous funding for the Rose-Hulman site. Over 130 students have have been though the program to date, working with six faculty. REU site
  • Saturday, November 11: Over 400 scholars from 26 high schools in Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and Memphis Tennessee, compete in RHIT High School Math Contest, Terre Haute South is the overall winner (news article).
  • November: Diane Evans, along with colleagues wins ICS prize form INFORMS for best collection of papers using computing in operations research (news article).

  • Thursday January 19: Math alumnus and Allstate Insurance Executive, Floyd Yager presented the Jess R. Lucas Alumni Leadership Award. Floyd visited with faculty and students the next day at the Math Department (news article).

    • Hari Ravindran, Rose Math Major, presents poster on his Summer 2005 research.
    • Kurt Bryan's REU team Hilary Spring and Shannon Talbot, wins $100 prize at the same poster session for their poster "Locating Circular Inclusions with Thermal Imaging".

  • Thursday, March 24 - Angela K. Smiley, Computer Science/Mathematics major, wins Goldwater Scholarship. Angela, along with Amelia M. Huehls, are two of only five Indiana students to win the scholarship this year. There have only been two RHIT previous winners in the last 10 years (news article).
