Summer Tablet Activities--2008

Monday, June 3 and Tuesday, June 4
Introduction to your tablet hardware/software and Introduction to assessment, Olin 259

As we have done for the past two summers, we will kick off summer activities with sessions to help you get familiar with your tablet. On Monday, we will focus on the tablet device and associated software (including but not limited to DyKnow). You will have your tablet by this point, so this is a great way to get to know it. On Tuesday, we will start working with the Microsoft/HP group (Ahmed, Holden, Livesay, Siahmakoun) on their assessment project, but everyone is welcome to attend to see how we are assessing the impact of tablets on faculty teaching and student learning. Snacks will be provided both days, with lunch provided on the first day. Please let me know if you plan to attend either or both days so we can plan food accordingly.

Thursday, June 26 and Friday, June 27
DyKnow Users Group Meeting at DePauw University

Transportation will be provided for those interested in attending the Users Group Meeting in Greencastle. This is a great way to learn more about DyKnow's capabilities, as well as to learn from tablet practitioners. Among Rose-Hulman faculty who will be presenting at the meeting are Peter Coppinger, Pat Ferro, Maki Hirotani, and Julia Williams. The great thing is that Maki and Peter started with tablets at last summer's tablet workshops, so it's terrific that they are ready to show others what they can do with the tablet. Again, please let me know if you wish to attend so we can pay your registration fee and arrange for transport.

Through June, July and August, the Microsoft/HP group will meet every other week to work on assessment. Twice each month, there will be open tablet presentation time scheduled so you can practice your tablet techniques in front of a supportive and knowledgeable group of staff and faculty. So you can get your feet wet with the technology before you walk into the class the first day!

In August, we will do a final wrap-up for everyone interested. You can present your "coolest pedagogy," walk through your first day of class, and get any questions anyswered.

October 15 and 16--Workshop on the Impact of Pen-based Technologies in Education (WIPTE) on the campus of Purdue University
We will have transportation available for those who wish to attend WIPTE. The registration fee for this can also be covered for you.
