Latin American Studies

blue dot The Area Minor in Latin American Studies has the following requirements:
  1. Language: Spanish proficiency equivalent to three (3) quarters of language study at Rose-Hulman. Language courses may be allocated in any of the four thematic categories, but there may be no more than one language course in any category.
       
  2. Four courses selected from the following:
    • GL221 Colonial Latin America
    • GL222 Modern Latin America
    • GL 325:  Cities in Latin American History
    • VA321 The Andean Countries of South America  
    • GL365 Geography of Latin America
    • SP213 Spanish Language and Culture--Latin America
           
  3. One HSS course in addition to those needed to satisfy the regular HSS requirements. This means a minimum of 40 credits in HSS must be earned.
          
  4. Substitutions may be made with the approval of the Area Minor Adviser. Students are encouraged to seek opportunities for foreign study in Latin America.
