Two alumni join Rose-Hulman Board of Trustees
Fred Clayton
Fred Clayton (70, CE) president of Clayton Engineering and Consulting Co. in Carmel,
Ind., has been elected by alumni to a four-year term on the Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology Board of Trustees.
Clayton, retired president and CEO of Shand Mining, Inc., will serve as one of two alumni
representatives to the board. The other alumni representative is Tom Dinkel (72,ME)
president of Sycamore Engineering in Terre Haute. Clayton will attend his first board
meeting in February.
Clayton was honored by Rose-Hulman in 1986 when he received the colleges
Distinguished Young Alumnus Award. He also served on the Commission on the Future of
Rose-Hulman, a yearlong strategic planning activity. He is also a member of the
colleges National Board of Advisors which is made up of national business and
industry leaders.
He is past chairman of the board of the Indiana Coal Council, and has served as a member
of the National Coal Council. While on the national council, Clayton was appointed to its
Policy Committee which was an advisory panel to the United States Secretary of Energy.
Craig Winn
DaimlerChrysler executive Craig Winn (ME, 73) has been elected as a new member of
the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Board of Trustees.
Winn is vice president of Jeep Platform Engineering for DaimlerChrysler. He is responsible
for the design, development and program management of all Jeep product lines. Winn joined
Chrysler in 1987 as executive engineer for Jeep and truck vehicle development. He
previously served as senior engineer for American Motors Corp., and product development
engineer for the Ford Motor Co.
The Indianapolis native received the Rose-Hulman Distinguished Young Alumnus Award in
1991. He is a member of the Rose-Hulman Commission on the Future, and the Rose-Hulman
Board of Advisors. The Board of Advisors is a group of business and industrial
representatives who meet annually on campus to provide counsel to the college.
