Rose-Hulman adds new tennis courts, rifle range

Rose-Hulman recently completed construction of six tennis courts and a state-of-the-art rifle range in the renovated athletic facilities complex located on the north side of campus.

Rose-Hulman formerly possessed four varsity courts, causing matches that were scheduled for two hours in length to take four. The Engineers were also forced to play the majority of their matches on the road, causing an additional loss of valuable class time.

“We played more matches annually at Wabash than we did at home. Now, with the new facility, teams will come to Rose-Hulman for matches,” said Coach Dan Hopkins.

The new facility features amenities for team members and the general school population. Benches, wind screens, water jugs, hitting boards and an increased seating capacity highlight features now available at the Rose-Hulman tennis complex.

Rose-Hulman also constructed the school’s second on-campus rifle range under the two-year old Cook Stadium complex at Phil Brown Field. Features of the new range include excellent lighting, electronic timers and environment-friendly bullet traps.

“The new rifle range will be a boost to our program by allowing us more practice time and the ability to schedule more home matches” said coach Michael Ray.

The rifle team finished 19th in the nation in 1998.
