Special scholarship program offers $273,000 in Indiana
A total of $273,000 in scholarships to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Purdue University, Ball State University and Valparaiso University is awarded each year to Indiana's top students participating in the American High School Mathematics Exam (AHSME), for freshmen through seniors; and MATHCOUNTS and American Junior High Mathematics Exam (AJHSME), for middle school students.
"Being smart has its rewards," says Rose-Hulman Mathematics Professor Elton Graves, Indiana coordinator of the ASHME and AJHSME competitions. "You hear so much about college athletic scholarships. There are opportunities for Indiana's top scholars, too."
Rose-Hulman awards $80,000 in scholarships to the top three winners in the high school and junior high mathematics exams — a $5,000 four-year scholarship for first, $3,000 for second and $2,000 for third in each test. There are also two renewable $7,500 scholarships for the top male and female student in Indiana's MATHCOUNTS contest.
For more information on the scholarships, students should contact the mathematics departments at the respective colleges or universities. For information about enrolling for the competitions, persons should contact their mathematics teacher or school counselor.
