American transportation group honors Lucas


Donald W. Lucas ('59, C.E.), deputy commissioner and chief highway engineer for the Indiana Department of Transportation, has been awarded the Thomas H. MacDonald Memorial Award by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). The award is the highest honor bestowed by AASHTO.

Lucas was recognized for his achievements and invaluable contributions to the art and science of highway administration, engineering and research. He has devoted much of his 40-year career to improving the quality of Indiana's highway network.

The award recognizes Lucas for setting the cornerstone of statistical quality control and quality assurance which helps the Indiana Department of Transportation meet its goals.
