Rose-Hulman finished the 1997 football season with a 3-7 record, tying for fourth in the league standings with a record of 2-4.

The Engineers won league games over Manchester College and Franklin College, and won a non-conference game on the road at Millsaps College (a member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference which Rose-Hulman will join next year).

Four Engineers were named to the first-team all-conference squad, including senior cornerback Tony Hinkle and senior offensive lineman Ryan Summers. Junior linebacker Bryan Hagelskamp and sophomore defensive tackle Jon Hulsman were also first-team honorees.

Sophomore quarterback Eric Hyten, senior linebacker Curtis Craig and freshman wide receiver Jon Harris were honorable mention all-ICAC honorees.
