Math contest grows in stature
The Rose-Hulman Mathematics Contest has grown into one of the Midwest's largest high school competitions, with more than 2,000 students from Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Iowa and Kentucky participating this fall. Test centers were organized this year at Rose-Hulman; St. Louis; Cincinnati, Ohio; and central Kentucky.
At Rose-Hulman, more than 500 students from 25 high schools completed 20 questions on a wide range of mathematical categories. Iowa City West High School (Iowa) captured top overall honors. Individual champions included Bryce John-son, a senior at Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Ind. (fourth straight title); Chris Mihelich, junior, Indianapolis' Park Tudor School (third straight title); Ethan Kuperman, sophomore, Iowa City West; and Andrew Chi, freshman, Terre Haute South High School.
This year's contest was organized by Rose-Hulman mathematics professors Ralph Grimaldi, Lynn Kiaer, Matthew Hopkins and David Rader. Emeritus faculty member Herb Bailey prepared the questions.
