Three receive Honor Alumnus Award


Each year, the Alumni Association presents the Honor Alumnus Award to graduates for their outstanding volunteer service to the association and for their professional achievements.

This year's recipients, recognized during Homecoming '97 are: William Schott ('74, Math.), James Tatooles ('55, M.E.), and Vernon Whitehouse, Jr. ('72, M.E.).

Schott has been a class agent for more than 20 years, and he is a past president of the Detroit Alumni Club. He also served as a volunteer during the Vision to be the Best development campaign, and he has given of his time to help the admissions office in student recruitment.

In addition to his Rose-Hulman degree, Schott holds an MBA from the University of Michigan. He serves as a technical team leader, responsible for managing the databases for several major corporate computer applications at Detroit Edison. He began his Detroit Edison career as a computer analyst at the Fermi nuclear plant. He later became a supervisor and head of the computer services department. He was promoted to corporate responsibilities five years ago.

Tatooles has been a class agent for nearly two decades. He is past president of the Chicago Alumni Club.

On the career side of life, Tatooles is president of Euclid Enterprises and Euclild Construction/Management in Wilmette, Ill. His company's projects range from residential subdivisions to multifamily complexes, commercial/industrial work and project management. The company provides services in all phases of development from site selection to design, financing and management.

Whitehouse is president of the Upper New Jersey Alumni Club, and he has served as a club officer for more than a decade. He has been a dedicated and effective class agent for nearly 20 years.

Whitehouse is senior sales engineer for Asea Brown Boveri, Inc., in Union, N.J. ABB manufactures heavy electric power distribution equipment that is sold nationwide. His father, the late Vernon, Sr., received the Honor Alumnus Award in 1974.
