Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Mechanical Engineering Professor Richard Stamper, a 1985 mechanical engineering alumnus, has gained a patent from the U.S. Patent Office for a new halo orthosis concept that will improve medical treatment of cervical spine injuries. The patent, No. 6,659,972 B2, was issued on Dec. 9. Stamper, a Rose-Hulman professor since 1998, received support from Rose- Hulman; Rose-Hulman Ventures, the college's technology- based incubator and product development center; and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the world's foremost medical research centers. |
