Alumni news and history of Rose-Hulman continue to be the most popular areas of reader interest in Echoes. A survey conducted last year confirmed what our readers prefer in this publication.

The Echoes top ten areas of reader interest are: alumni class notes; history of Rose-Hulman; alumni feature stories; The Looking Back history column; President Hulbert’s column; student body quality; student academic projects; career trends for engineers/scientists; academic department news; and homecoming.

Readers also were asked to give their opinions on other facets of the publication. Almost 75 percent read every issue, a figure that is up six points from our last survey. A total of 73 percent read most or all of Echoes, and 91 percent rate it as a valuable or very valuable source of information about Rose-Hulman.

In the area of writing, 87.4 percent rated the quality as good or excellent, and the printing quality saw an 82.8 percent rating of good or excellent. Design appearance rated 71 percent good to excellent, and photography rated 74.8 percent good to excellent. All of the numbers were up in the good-to-excellent ratings when compared to the last survey.

Assisting with the survey were Timothy Chow, assistant dean for institutional research, and Gloria Rogers, vice president for institutional research, planning and assessment. They helped develop the survey instrument and run the survey results.

Winners in our readership survey drawing were William J. Pine (sweatshirt), Richard Bunce (umbrella), Edward J. Klecka (baseball cap) and Ed McCarthy (computer mousepad).
