Jelski to head chemistry department Daniel Jelski will become the new head of the Department of Chemistry on August 1, replacing Interim Head Farrell Brown, who will return to South Carolina after spending a year on a special assignment at Rose-Hulman. Jelski has been a member of the faculty at the State University of New York at Fredonia for the past 12 years. In 1996-97, he was a Fulbright Scholar at Makerere University in Uganda. In 1995, Jelski received the William T. Hagan Award at SUNY-Fredonia for outstanding professional service in research. He has recently completed an electronic structure calculation of derivatives of the novel molecule buckministerfullerence. At Rose-Hulman, he intends to research applying vibration self-consistent field (VSCF) theory to large biomolecules. Jelski earned his bachelors degree in chemistry from the University of Chicago and his doctorate from Northern Illinois University. He was a postdoctoral research associate at SUNY-Buffalo. He and his wife, Valerie, have two children. |
