Two alumni are the newest members of the Rose-Hulman Board of Trustees.

Indianapolis orthopedic surgeon Jack Farr and telecommunications executive Warren Mickens, of Hoffman Estates, Ill., were elected to five-year terms by the board during its meeting on May 26.

This is the second time in the past eight months that the two have been cited by their alma mater. Both received honorary doctor of engineering degrees last year during the college’s 125th anniversary convocation Sept. 11 in Hulbert Arena.

Farr earned the bachelor’s degree in biological engineering from Rose-Hulman in 1975. Four years later, he received his medical degree from Indiana University.

Farr specializes in sports medicine, arthroscopy and knee reconstruction surgery. He is affiliated with Orthopaedics Indianapolis and serves on the company’s executive committee. His appointments include clincial associate professor of orthopaedic surgery at the Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. Farr also serves on the board of directors of the Orthopedic Research Foundation, and is medical director of the Cartilage Restoration Center of Indiana.

Mickens received the B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Rose-Hulman in 1977 and the MBA from Harvard University in 1982.

He is vice president for strategy and interconnection for SBC Telecom. Mickens develops and implements strategies for the new competitive local exchange carriers’ market entry into 30 cities during a 24-month period. Last year as vice president of network engineering and operations for Ameritech, he directed the network cellular and paging services.

Other appointments with Ameritech have included general manager for integrated implementation planning and vice president of wholesale customer operations. Before joining Ameritech in 1994, Mickens served as president of the Separation Technologies Division of Cummins Engine Co.
