Computer science professor to be Fulbright scholar

Rose-Hulman Computer Science Professor David Mutchler’s sense of intrigue and adventure has taken him on an academic sabbatical as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Mauritius for the next 12 months. Located in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius is an island whose 1.3 million residents speak variations of 16 languages.

"It’s a once-in-a-lifetime educational experience for me and my family. We’re unsure about what we’re going to encoun-ter there, but we’re open to new adventures," said Mutchler, a member of the faculty since 1994. "Hopefully, it will be a learning experience for me and Mauritius’ students."

Mutchler will be a Fulbright Lecturer at the University of Mauritius, a 4,000-student college. He will also conduct research in artificial intelligence and develop an introductory computer science course for new technology.

Mutchler is the fifth Rose-Hulman professor in the past two years chosen to participate in the educational cultural exchange program.
