Samuel J. Reed, a 1981 mechanical engineering alumnus, has been promoted to president of BSA Lifestructures, the largest architectural and engineering firm based in Indiana. Reed replaces Monte Hoover who was named chairman of BSA Design in 2002. As president, Reed oversees BSA's architecture and engineering divisions, continuing the company's mission of designing functional, innovative spaces for the people who use them. Reed will play a key role in growing the firm in becoming a national player in the health care and life science areas. Reed grew up near West Lafayette, Ind. and has worked at BSA Design for more than 20 years. He became a principal in 1995, and has led the firm's engineering team since 1999. He is a registered professional engineer in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Kansas, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Florida. He is a member of the Rose-Hulman Alumni Advisory Board, The Advisory Council of the Carmelites of Indianapolis and St. Pius Catholic Church. He is also a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Engineers; American Society of Plumbing Engineers; National Society of Professional Engineers; and Indiana Society of Professional Engineers. Four African-American Rose-Hulman alumni participated as panelists during a January campus program to observe the contributions of Martin Luther King, Jr. Participating were: Gerald Roberts (1985 electrical engineering), Damon Richards (1984 electrical engineering), Darin Moody (1987 chemical engineering) and Joseph Matthews (1991 electrical engineering). They agreed that while progress has been made to achieve the dreams expressed by the civil rights leader, more work needs to be done if that progress is to continue. The four shared their experiences in becoming successful in their careers and communities. |
