Spring 1998

Rifle team 19th in national rankings

Rose-Hulman’s rifle team finished the season ranked 19th in the nation in the final NCAA rifle poll. There are no divisions for NCAA rifle programs, so all schools compete together. This year’s rank was one better than the 20th ranking the squad posted in 1996-97.  Junior Rich Price, the team’s Most Valuable Shooter, led the team in both smallbore and air rifle shooting at the NCAA sectional match at Xavier (Ohio) University. The team posted scores of 4380 in the smallbore and 1429 in the air rifle, for an aggregate score of 5809 at the NCAA sectionals. Rifle is the only coeducational NCAA sport, and the Engineers’ squad had its first female, Amber Jonker, to participate in a match this year.
