Bring on the Bumble Balls, PVC Insanity and vehicles held together with Cheese Whiz
One of the major problems facing our society is the lack of interest in engineering and science among our young people. National studies show the students from kindergarten through high school have less interest in mathematics and science. The trend continues on a downward slope. The system is not encouraging all those who might have an aptitude for and interest in studying engineering. This was a focus point of Rose-Hulman’s Commission on the Future of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Taking the problem to heart, many alumni around the country and the world volunteer their time to encourage interest in engineering, science and mathematics among our young people. It takes time and commitment, but the payoff will be worth it. Echoes knows countless alumni are involved in this worthwhile endeavor. Space limitations do not allow us to include everyone we know who is involved in this work. So we focus on three efforts a statewide mathematics program,
an engineering competition, and a Rose-Hulman club dedicated to helping young people Explore Engineering. All three show alumni and their alma mater "doing something about it". Articles on these pages written by Dale Long
