Rose-Hulman receives state and local marketing awards for hosting Sunrayce 97

Rose-Hulman earned state and local marketing awards for its promotion of the Solar Phantom IV solar-powered car and hosting the first overnight stop of the Sunrayce 97 cross country solar car race.

Rose-Hulman was one of seven organizations receiving the prestigious Keystone Award from the Indianapolis-based Hoosier Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. It was one of two honors presented in the Community Relations category, and was one of only two awards given to non-profit organizations.

Rose-Hulman also was the only honoree that didn’t utilize an outside public relations agency to organize its marketing plan.

Earlier, the college was named the Marketer of the Year by the Wabash Valley Chapter of the American Marketing Association.

Sunrayce 97 brought hundreds of Wabash Valley residents to campus to see the solar cars from 36 North American colleges. More than 150 campus and community volunteers helped Rose-Hulman host the event.

Dale Long, associate director of communications, organized the host commitee and promotion of the Solar Phantom Race Team.
