Two events at Rose-Hulman are attracting the interest of higher education faculty and presidents nationwide. At least 14 college or university presidents spoke about new paradigms for higher education in the 21st century during a conference Aug. 27-28 at Rose-Hulman. On Oct. 16-17, several hundred engineering educators will visit Rose-Hulman to attend a symposium, Best Assessment Processes in Engineering Education. Faculty will learn about innovative ways to assess the effectiveness of engineering education to meet new accreditation standards for engineering programs. During the August conference, presidents representing private engineering colleges, state-supported universities, and private liberal arts colleges or universities expressed their views about the future of higher education. The program, conducted annually to mark the beginning of the new Rose-Hulman academic year, focuses on key education issues and trends. Presidents discussed the future role of distance education, engineering education in the information age, old values for new times, and new paradigms that will impact Rose-Hulmans role in preparing tomorrows leaders. Last year, Rose-Hulman hosted the nations first symposium where engineering faculty learned about effective ways to assess engineering education to meet major changes in accreditation.
