Fall 1998

Baseball team completes 8th straight winning season

Rose-Hulman completed its eighth consecutive winning season in 1998, finishing the year with a 26-18 overall record. The Engineers’ 26-win total was the second-highest in the school’s history, behind only the NCAA tournament performance of 1996 when the team won 28 games.

The Engineers finished third in both the regular season and post-season tournament in their final Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference season. Rose-Hulman set a new single-season team home run record (27) and Jimmy Costa tied the school record with 50 hits this season.

The baseball team’s tradition of fielding top-notch student-athletes continued in 1998, as senior Jimmy Costa was named a first-team Academic All-American by GTE/CoSIDA. Juniors Eric Baer and Andy Cain and sophomore Phil Munzer were first-team all-ICAC selections, while senior Matt Sims and sophomore Marc McCullough were honorable mention all-league picks.
