Alumni giving for the 1997-98 school year jumped to 47 percent, increasing from the previous years rate of 39 percent. The actual dollar amount of money donated by alumni totalled $5.9 million. The alumni giving rate is important for Rose-Hulman when it approaches corporations and foundations for philanthropic support. How much alumni support their respective colleges is a key factor corporations and foundations use in determining if they will support a school. Rose-Hulmans rate of alumni giving is among the tops in the country. The national average is 14 to 17 percent. One of the main reasons for the growth was the excellent response from the Phonathon.
