Two veteran Rose-Hulman staff move to alumni affairs

Two staff members who have worked at Rose-Hulman for a total of 22 years have been named director and assistant director in the Office of Alumni Affairs and Special Events.

Brian Dyer, a 16-year veteran of the Rose-Hulman admissions office staff, is the new director of alumni affairs and special events. Dyer replaces Tony Wellings, who resigned in July after nine years as director. Wellings accepted a position as a project manager with DukeSolutions, a Duke Energy Company in Indianapolis.

Named assistant director is Bunny Nash, who has served as director of the Rose-Hulman Drama Club for six years. She has extensive experience in public relations and volunteer management in previous positions with non-profit organizations.

Nash assumes the job previously held by Bettie Evinger, who retired in August after 30 years of service in the college’s business office, and Office of Alumni Affairs and Special Events. A retirement dinner to honor Evinger is scheduled on Sept. 13 at 5 p.m. in the Hulman Union.

Darrell Loyless, vice president for development and external affairs, says Dyer and Nash have an understanding of Rose-Hulman that will help them continue the development of alumni and parent programs, and special events.

“Brian has helped recruit nearly half of all our living alumni,” Loyless noted. “He knows Rose-Hulman very well, and will be a familiar face to many alumni.”

Dyer said his admissions experience at Rose-Hulman will be beneficial in his new role as alumni affairs director.

“I’m very excited about renewing friendships with alumni I helped recruit to Rose-Hulman and introducing myself to alumni who I haven’t had the opportunity to meet.

“I want to build upon Tony and Bettie’s work to provide the best programs and services possible to create a lifelong relationship between alumni and Rose-Hulman,” he said.

Loyless noted that Nash has done an outstanding job working with and instructing students, who are now among the ranks of our alumni.

“Among Nash’s duties will be adviser to LINK, a student organization created to enhance communications between current students and alumni,” he said. “LINK is also increasing student understanding about the importance of being an active alumni volunteer.”

Nash credits Bettie Evinger for helping her during the transition to the job Evinger has done for the past 14 years. “I’ve learned a lot from Bettie in a short period of time. She’s meant a lot to Rose-Hulman and its alumni,” Nash commented.

Even though Dyer and Nash have attended many Rose-Hulman homecomings, this year’s event will no doubt be even more special for both of them.
