Three more Academic All-Americans
Three Rose-Hulman student-athletes added their names to the list of the school’s GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-Americans.
Baseball players Eric Tryon (outfielder/ pitcher) and Jimmy Costa (first base/pitcher), and pole vaulter Ryan Loftus increased Rose-Hulman’s GTE Academic All-American total to 43 since 1978.
Tryon earned first-team honors for the second year in a row to become the eighth Rose-Hulman athlete to earn the award more than once.
Loftus was a second-team selection, boasting a 3.82 grade point average and earning NCAA III All-American honors in both the indoor and outdoor pole vault.
Costa made the third team squad as a junior.
Engineer football player Chad Welch was a second team All-American selection last fall.
Student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve in their respective sport, maintain a minimum 3.2 grade point average and be in at least their second academic year at their school to be nominated for the Academic All-American honor.
