The ECE Department

The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department offers BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering and a BS degree in Computer Engineering. Each of these degrees will prepare students for a wide range of careers in industry and government while also preparing them for further study in engineering, business, medicine, or law.

Our faculty use innovative teaching techniques to provide an exciting educational experience rich in hands-on laboratory content and team-oriented design projects.

Electrical Engineering

Electrical Engineering encompasses a broad array of areas including signal processing, communication systems, electronics, integrated circuits, digital systems, controls, power engineering, and electromagnetics. An electrical engineer may design a system as large as a power plant for an entire city or as small as an integrated circuit. An electrical engineering degree may provide the opportunity to design the analog or digital processing or the wireless communication for tomorrow's electronic products. More on Electrical Engineering.

Computer Engineering

Computer Engineering combines elements of electrical engineering and computer science to understand the hardware/software interface common to computing and information systems. A computer engineer may perform tasks such as the design of a microprocessor or the development of an embedded-system that may be used in applications that range from desktops to hand-held devices. More on Computer Engineering.

Engineering Design

Engineering design and teamwork are an integral part of our programs. Rose students take a five-course sequence in engineering design that begins early in their sophomore year and culminates with a yearlong engineering design project in their senior year. In the senior year project, a student design team works with a faculty mentor and an industrial sponsor on a challenging real-world project provided by the sponsor.

Rose-Hulman

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is one of the premier institutions offering undergraduate degrees in engineering, science, and mathematics. Our programs are exciting and challenging, and our students are among the best in the world. In addition to having outstanding students and advanced facilities, Rose-Hulman is distinguished by providing each student with a supportive environment that helps ensure success. The graduation rate for students accepted into our programs is very high.

Rose-Hulman provides rigorous academic programs in Applied Optics, Applied Biology, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Mathematical Economics, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics.

Many guides to selective colleges, including U.S. News & World Report, Money magazine, and Barron¡'s Guide to the Most Prestigious Colleges, recognize Rose-Hulman as one of the top choices.

A Special Place to Learn

What sets Rose-Hulman apart is that, at Rose, students are our highest priority. Faculty members at Rose-Hulman are dedicated to the education of students. Students interact in the classroom and laboratory with faculty, not teaching assistants. Faculty are also available outside the classroom to provide students guidance in their coursework and other interests. We work to ensure student success.

Extracurricular Activities

Extracurricular activities provide many opportunities for students to excel and have fun. These include sports, fine arts, and a variety of other interests. Co-curricular activities are also available for students in technical areas. The Aerial Robotics Club is one of the few teams in the country that has developed a remote controlled helicopter capable of autonomous flight. The Solar Phantom Student Team designed and piloted the solar car that won the 2000 Formula Sun Track Race. The Solar Phantom team recently completed the Chicago to Los Angeles solar race via Route 66, finishing in the top ten. More Campus Groups
