Chemistry is
often called the
"central science"
and nowhere is
that more
prevalent than
at Rose-Hulman
Institute of
Technology.
All majors at
Rose include
chemistry. The
chemistry and
biochemistry
curricula
provide
excellent
understanding
and appreciation
of chemistry in
nature and
technology.
Courses and
undergraduate
research focus
on how chemistry
and biochemistry
can be used to
find solutions
to contemporary
problems such as
energy, the
environment,
materials, and
renewability of
resources.
To meet its
mission, the
department is
well-equipped
with state of
the art
instrumentation
that
undergraduate
students use as
early as their
freshman year.
At Rose you will
find chemistry
and biochemistry
students working
shoulder to
shoulder with
some of the
brightest
students from
many different
technical
disciplines.
The department
offers an
American
Chemical Society
(ACS) approved
majors in
chemistry
and
biochemistry and a minor in chemistry. A biochemistry-molecular
biology as a
second degree is
also available
for chemistry
majors.
The biochemistry
and chemistry
curricula have
the following
outstanding
features:
-
A solid
foundation
in the
fundamentals,
-
All
laboratories
are
instructed
by faculty
from general
chemistry to
the senior
level,

a strong
undergraduate
research
program that
often
results
in publications

journals and
presentations
at
scientific
meetings,
and
