The Rose-Hulman Civil Engineering program is designed
to prepare the student for a productive
career in industry as well as advanced graduate
study. It is formulated to create an awareness
of the various professional avenues open
to Civil Engineering students and to facilitate
their placement.
The program is sound in the fundamental
principles of science and engineering, providing
a solid base for life-long professional
learning. It provides an experience rich
in engineering laboratory practice providing
an opportunity to experience in the lab
those principles and standard practices
which they will be exposed to in industry
or graduate education.
The curriculum covers the breadth of material
that encompasses what is commonly referred
to as Civil Engineering, ensuring that the
graduates will have the basic tools to move
into virtually any area of Civil Engineering
employment or graduate study.
Additionally, the curriculum allows for
elective choices that can provide educational
breadth in the various important areas of
Civil Engineering. A senior level capstone
design course highlights the academic experience
and provides an awareness of the role of
engineering in solving the complex technological
and social problems of the environment and
social/political world.
Above all, the Rose-Hulman Civil Engineering
experience provides for a professional/mentor
relationship between faculty member and
student that allows career, academic and
societal counseling as well as professional
career tracking.
