Phone Interviews: Cell Phones
are a Risky Move Many
students are currently being asked to participate in phone interviews as
part of their hiring process, and we are getting feedback from companies
that using your cell phone for the call is not scoring you any points.
Companies complain that cell phone reception and clarity can interfere with
their interview, and that they would prefer students to use a regular phone
for such calls. Our office has private rooms that you can use to conduct
your phone interviews. Just email us or give us a call to reserve a room,
and we can provide you with the number for the company to call when the time
for the interview comes. Keep your cell phone reserved for casual calls, and
let us help you appear professional – even on the phone! NACE International Student

office is now set up to use Skype with
companies that use this service for video interviews. We have conducted a
few interviews with one company so far, and are fine tuning the process to
make it successful for future interviews. If you are networking with a
company that cannot visit campus for interviews, feel free to mention Skype
as an option, and then be in contact with us so we can reserve the room and
work with IAIT to get everything ready. Career Services to Host
Companies in Indy There is
no doubt that the job market is tough right now, which means everyone must
work a little harder to find opportunities. Career Services is no different.
As a result, we are hosting a networking luncheon in downtown Indianapolis
on March 18th. We are targeting companies that we have not worked with
before in an effort to expose them to Rose-Hulman and our office. Almost 60
companies were invited to attend the luncheon, and we think it will be a
great opportunity to give companies insight into our outstanding programs
and students. Our office plans to network with them, and hopefully bring new
opportunities back to campus. Obama Launches White House
Intern Program Looking
for an internship outside of science or engineering? Those selected to
participate in the White House Internship Program will gain valuable job
experience and an inside look at the life of White House staff while
building leadership skills. "This
program will mentor and cultivate young leaders of today and tomorrow and
I'm proud that they will have this opportunity to serve," said President
Obama. "I look forward to working with those that are selected to
participate and I want to commend all who apply for their desire to help
through public service to forge a brighter future for our country." In
addition to normal office duties, interns will supplement their learning
experience by attending a weekly lecture series hosted by senior White House
staff, help at White House social events, and volunteer in community service
projects. The 2009
Summer Internship deadline is March 22, 2009. Please see our posting in
eRecruiting (employer is “Rose-Hulman Career Services”) for all the details
on how to apply. Rose-Hulman Job Idol Winner:
