Sept. 4, 2008 Here’s to a new year! The office of Career Services
wants to welcome all new students, faculty and staff to campus as well as
welcome back all the familiar faces from last year. We hope the 2008-2009
year will be a great one, and we have a lot of new things to tell you about.
Over the next few eNews issues (these come out every other week!) we will
spotlight different resources and services that are new for this year. Here
is a preview of all the new things we want you to know about: ·
Our website had a significant revamp this
summer. Be sure to check out the re-tooled Student
section and see what’s new! ·
We have a new Parent & Family
section on our website! Tell your families to check it out and that they
can subscribe to their own quarterly eNewsletter. ·
We now have a full access subscription to the Vault Online Career
Library. All students and faculty have access to this great resource! ·
We have re-organized our physical library
resources to make them more accessible to students. Stop by our front lobby
to see all of the materials available to you. ·
We are installing new videoconferencing
equipment to allow students to have video interviews with companies in
remote locations. ·
This fall we will be launching a new Alumni
Mentoring Program! Watch for more details about a logo contest this fall! New Assistant Director in Career Services
Career Services Open House, September 9th We want to invite everyone to stop
in and visit us at our annual Open House next week on Tuesday, September
9th from 11am to 2pm. We will have light snacks and you can
enter into a drawing to win some fabulous prizes from the bookstore! Take a
few minutes to drop by and introduce yourself! We’re in the Union on the
upper level. Fall 2008 Workshop Schedule Our current workshop schedule is
up on our website, so take a look and plan time to attend any that may be of
interest. Seniors need to make plans to attend one section of the Senior
Seminar series. Plan to attend with your major when possible, and if you
cannot make it during your major’s time, then attend a general session. You
can see the whole workshop
schedule online. eRecruiting Update Time! It’s the start of a new quarter,
so that means it is time for you to update yourself in eRecruiting! Freshmen
will learn more about eRecruiting and how we use it in their College & Life
Skills class, but everyone else should be logging in as soon as possible to
upload a new resume and update their profile. Pay special attention to your
GPA, class status, job intent and date of graduation. Companies already
have jobs in the system that you can apply for, and September already has
info sessions and events planned for you to attend! Career Services Partnership Program We began a new partnership program
this summer to help build and strengthen connections with companies that
recruit on campus. The purpose of this program is to help raise students
awareness of companies and to allow us to develop recruitment-focused
activities throughout the year. Please stop by our Partner Page
and visit our partners. Additionally, each week on the Student
page of our website we will be spotlighting one of our partners.
New Networking Opportunities at PA Series The 2008-2009 Performing Arts Series
will not only feature some top-notch shows, but will also feature some new and
exciting ways to network with companies. Three of the fall shows are
sponsored by companies and will include special networking events in
conjunction with the performances. Mark these dates on your calendar so you
can plan to mix and mingle with company reps visiting campus: Rockwell Collins sponsors

Fridays are Reminder Days! We know that students get very
busy during the school year, so Fridays are our Reminder Days. We send one
email on Fridays to remind all eRecruiting account about opportunities on
campus the following week. This email includes job application deadlines
from our eRecruiting system. Jobs are literally closing every day, so be
watching for this email! (Seniors, once you have a job or a grad school
chosen, let us know so we can stop these emails from coming!) |
