Calling All Juniors:

Junior Jumpstart Workshops start April 14th

Career Services has a new seminar starting on April 14th that all juniors need to plan to attend. There are a variety of different days and times, so fitting one into your schedule shouldn’t be a problem. These workshops are designed to provide you with information you need as you leave campus for your final summer before graduation. Whether you have a summer internship or research experience planned for this summer or not, be sure to plan to attend one of our sessions. You can see when they are scheduled by visiting our workshop schedule online. You only need to attend one.

Say Goodbye: Jon Bethuram Joins Cummins Team

Career Services would like to invite campus to say good-bye to Jon Bethuram as he leaves us for a new position as a College Recruiter with Cummins in Columbus, Indiana. Jon has been an Assistant Director here for just over four years and has a great opportunity to explore recruiting from the other side of the table. Hopefully he will come back and visit us at our career fairs! Goodbye Jon, we’ll miss you! His last day will be April 11th.

IU Minority Law Day: April 5th

In an effort to promote legal scholarship, prepare students for the legal profession, influence the legal landscape, and recruit a diverse perspective, the organizations listed on the Minority Law Day flier are pleased to announce this year’s Minority Law Day to be held at the Indiana University School of Law—Bloomington in Bloomington, Indiana, on April 5th. All high school and college students are welcome. There is no cost to participate. This annual event introduces those interested in law school to the admissions process, the law school experience, and the legal profession.  Participants will have the opportunity to interact with members in all elements of the law: law school admissions representatives, current students, alumni, directors of financial aid, law professors, LSAT preparation organizations, and even a few Deans of law schools!

braintumorribbon-sm.jpgHelp Us Help Jeff Trune

Last Friday an all campus email went out announcing the collaborative effort of Intervarsity Christian Fellowship and Career Services to raise money for Jeff Trune and his family. Jeff Trune was a sophomore electrical engineer who had to leave school at Christmas Break because of a brain tumor. We are collecting money to help his family and would love your support. We have created a simple page on the Career Services website if you would like more information about Jeff and his situation. Dawn Miller and Charity Mouck from Career Services will also be travelling to see Jeff and his family next Wednesday and Thursday during break. Please click here to visit our page about Jeff.

Some eRecruiting Tips

eRecruiting can be tricky if you don’t use it as often as we do, so here are a few tips we’ve found that may help:

·         If you get frustrated by searching for jobs in the system and finding ones that are already closed, refine your search criteria on the left sidebar by choosing to only view jobs that are currently accepting applications. Then you won’t see the closed jobs!

·         Another way to avoid job searches that don’t return the results that you want is to skip the search and head straight for the career center calendar tab. You can scroll through all the job applications easily looking for your major and you won’t miss a thing!

·         Have you been invited to interview with a company, but aren’t interested and don’t want to be bugged by us asking you whether you plan to sign up or not? A simple way to let us know you’re not interested is to log in to your account, go to your active applications and on the details of that job, there is a link to decline the interview. This lets us know you do not wish to interview and we won’t contact you about it.

·         Have you looked up a company in the system and found what you were looking for, but noticed there were no contacts listed? We purposefully hide all our company contacts from general view within the system, but if you email us or stop by, we are more than happy to provide contact information for any company in the system!
